1992 Citroen AX GTi review from UK and Ireland
"Quick, low insurance hot hatch that's a bit different, and nice to modify"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
ECU.
Exhaust blew.
Many intermittent faults that are predominently electrical faults.
Starting problems.
Idle problems.
Injection problems.
Fueling problems etc, etc.
General comments?
The interior is a bit square and dated, but has nice seats, although rattles like anything!
Generally poor build quality, dents easily, prone to many electrical faults due to poor wiring and corroding of the wires.
Nice looking car with bodykit as standard - looks better with tinted rear lights, clear side repeaters and front indicator lenses - and the bodykit colour coded/sprayed.
Ultra light weight due to paper thin construction combined with torquey 8 valve engine - very quick for a 1.4. 0-60 IN 9 seconds-ish.
Will out accelerate Novas, Fiestas, and often Golfs and the like.
Cheap to run and insure, i.e. only group 9-11. You can get insured on these when 17, just.
Very unreliable though and best bought with low mileage for best results.
GREAT FUN TO DRIVE! SHAME ABOUT THE RELIABILITY.
