1988 Citroen AX GT review from Netherlands
"A high performance go-kart"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Gearbox connection rods came loose when I went about 115mph, resulting in a car with only a fifth gear.
Front wiper mechanism was completely worn.
Front wiper spray mechanism doesn't work.
Horn doesn't work
The wiring of the car was a mess!
Rear braking cylinders gaskets leaked.
Clutch is noisy (probably a worn out bearing)
General comments?
I bought the car for only $500,- so I didn't expect much comfort and engine power, especially because the car had no "GT" badge on it.
When I took it for a test drive and I accelerated full throttle I was overwhelmed by the extremely loud airbox noise.
When it was warmed up it bulleted away like it was supercharged.
Of couse I bought it!!
The handling of the car is incredible also because the car's been lowered to the extreme.
Golf gti's cannot keep up in corners.
I have achieved a top speed of 117MPH (192KM/H), but acceleration from 85mph-117 is not too fast, but fast enough to beat about every car that isn't a GTI version.
I've beaten BMW's Golf GT I's Golf TD I's, cars with engines up to 2.2 litres!
But the brakes are not too good.
The car is so extremely light that when your accellerate below 3000 rpm you can go for about 17KM on one liter of gas.
Probably the worst point of the car is the interior.
It rattles like it's about to come off.
