1990 Citroen AX Salsa review from UK and Ireland

Exhaust fell off after 60,000 with no warning.

Brake discs, pads and calipers have been replaced 3 times in the life of the car.

Had trouble starting since 65,000 miles, need new flywheel and starter motor.

Windows very stiff to wind.

Pigeon made a huge dint in the bonnet.

So many little things have gone wrong there is never one journey without incident, which all adds to the fun of owning a citroen ax.

It has been surprisingly reliable over the past year considering its age, but its starting to show with a recent increase in knocking and rattling sounds.

The brakes, as with most things about the ax, are laughable, although there is no point trying to stop and avoid an accident as the car will disintegrate either way.

Its better not to think about how shockingly dangerous this car is, the driving experience makes up for this though as it is quite fun for a first car, and it has stood up to my poor student driving for a whole year.

Motorways aren't too much of a problem, if you stick to 70 it will plod along all day, and you wont run out of fuel either because it keeps going for miles even with the needle in red.

The car in general is so comically bad you can't help, but like it, rather like an old mini.

I would recommend this car to anyone who has just passed there test and has no concern for their safety, and who wants to be slightly faster than all those standard novas and fiestas out there.
