1989 Citroen AX GT review from UK and Ireland
"A mad little French catapult"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The list may bore you...
Needed new brake pads, wheel cylinders, shock absorbers, cylinder head gasket, tyres, alternator, starter motor, CV boots, track rod ends, ball joints, full exhaust system, clutch, and endless attempts at getting the tracking right. I have spent over £2000 on mechanical repairs alone to this car.
The brakes in standard form are appalling (I once had to use the back of a BMW to stop).
General comments?
To be an AX GT owner, you need a sense of humour. Stonkingly fast for a 1.4, and it still surprises me after two years of ownership. A K&N releases an extra 8bhp. If you want to buy one, just be prepared for everything to go wrong. The bodywork dents in the breeze, and the trim and bodykit has a strange desire to detatch itself from the car. But at the end of the day, sink the accelerator, and the little French shed will have you laughing.
