Only a few traumas.
Carb went way out of tune, poor running problem just before twin choke kicks in. Rolling road cured, but still needs new distributor.
Windscreen washer jets don't function.
Stage 3 on the heater doesn't work.
Clunky gearing.
Great car generally. Absolutely love AX GTs. This is my second 1. These are my current modifications:
15" Raceline alloys on 45 profile tyres
Full Colourcoded smoothed bodykit
Peco Big Bore 2 back box
Cobra Bucket seats with 3 point harnesses
Lots of ICE
Pipercross Air filter with larger jets
Simoni Racing Steering wheel
Momo Chrome gearknob.
It really does look and go very well indeed. Impressive acceleration, top end is a little disappointing, but still you can't have everything.
Overall great car!!
Citroen AX GT's are a fine little motor (and I will agree having owned a few) in my opinion they eclipse the GT's replacememt on performance (umm VTR). Off the mark, citroens newer model could not compete (that's the truth), AX GT's may be classified in the xr2 league, but I put them a little higher up... swift gti more like... and that's the main reason I want another one!
Don't take any notice about the reliability claims on this site as I have owned 3 AX GT's and not one of them ever let me down... its all down to simple maintenence really.
If you haven't been in an AX GT... then I suggest you do, good fun and cheap motoring!
