1992 Citroen AX GT review from UK and Ireland
"A cheap lightweight rocket"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Not much, rust in the engine bay behind rear lights.
Coil + Ignition amp went causing car to cut out at 100mph on motorway.
Squeaks, rattles and some strange grinding noise from engine.
Apart from that pretty reliable.
General comments?
This car is great is really quick and fun to drive after owning a 1 litre version ax I knew I wanted a gt version. I bought the car for £1000 in the summer of 2002 with 80K on the clock it needed a bit of sprucing up apart from that it was great and regularly embarrasses cars with much bigger engines. The wheels are too thin tho resulting in massive wheel spin from standing starts and some times changing up into second, and the back end can lift under hard cornering which resulted in me ending up spinning threw a brick wall, my car is now sat on my path waiting to be rebuilt. Insurance I bought the car when I was 18 an had 0 no claims bonus and paid £2000, but after 1 year it dropped to £1150 which is a lot more reasonable. If you ignore the rattles and get used to the manual choke and this car is a right little screamer.
