1984 Citroen BX TRS review from Portugal

The car let me down many times. I don't even know why I have it. Here we go:

The carby siezed in the first month of ownership.

The ignition module also siezed.

The alternator was renewed.

Brake calipers were changed.

Water pump was changed.

The high pressure tubes blew three times, leaving me in very hard trouble.

The spheres were re-gassed twice (normal wear I suppose).

Problems with the steering wheel.

Rear and front bearings changed.

2 new clutch disks (expected).

Fuel pump died twice.

Accumulator sphere changed.

Gearbox linkages changed.

Other minor problems such as electrical problems, some overheating, and also some bodyshell rust. Plenty of LHM leaking episodes.

As is known, the BX is a very comfortable car, and although it is true that there are many people who consider it reliable, my general impression is that it is not at all reliable, also because not every mechanic is familiar to its particularities.

The power is fine and the gearbox is very well designed.

Safty is very high. Many newer cars don't even get near its braking capability, not to mention very stable behaviour. I never lost control of the car.

The visibility from the inside is low, and some manuevers require great skill. The steering is really heavy.

The car is rather old so normal wear and tear exist.

The two big problems are the bad consumption and suspention related trouble. Regarding consumption, the car tunes out easily. It can very easily reach 12 l/100km on mixed routes.
