1987 Citroen BX RD estate review from UK and Ireland
"Super-cheap useful runabout"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Leaking hydraulic pipe, air in fuel supply. Central locking actuators failing, radiator leak. Shabby interior. Needed new accumulator sphere... easy if you have correct tool.
General comments?
Sounds bad, but isn't really. Bought it for 50p from a mate who was going to scrap it. Changed the leaking pipe, had a new fuel pipe and filter fitted by a local garage, they serviced it too. Put up with the leaky rad for a bit until missus moaned at me. Got a free GTi for scrapping with mint interior, so fitted that, it also supplied the central locking actuators.
Engine great, it starts everytime and has given no problems. Sluggish performance away from lights, but very strong on motorway and is unstoppable up hills. Galvanized body has no rust. 50mpg. Huge load capacity. Basically it's cost £500 to get it working, but has been a useful workhorse all this year and I feel it'll go on for much longer yet. I would advocate the 50p car to anyone!!!
