The Hydraulic oil is used to elevate the car up and down, a Citroen special, but it is also used as brake fluid and power-steering fluid, so when I loose pressure I have neither brakes, steering or suspension, which are quite essential parts of a car. This is really bugging me as it cost a lot of money to repair all the time. But I am satisfied and impressed over how well the engine still run, after 300000 km, when I first tried it it felt as it was new. If you, by some, ridiculous reason are interested in buying one of these cars you don't have to worry about high mileage or age as these cars and engines are very well crafted. Worry about leaks in the hydraulic system! THere are almost no rust.
I am also impressed over how fast the car is it surely is one of the best accelerating diesels, both when it was build and today, it also have an acceptable top speed, though you might never drive so fast..
It is very comfortable and the the trim level which is one of the highest on BX has electric windows, power steering and central locking.
It is though the ugliest car in the world and it is embarrassing to drive.
It might seem that I am positive about this car, but the design drags it all down to the bottom for me, so don't give this review a Smiley face Car-survey! though design is a matter of personal taste..
Unfortunately, Citroens can sense when you don't like them. This contributes to their poor repair record. Every day, say something nice about the car while driving the car. Your car will stop crying hydraulic fluid, perhaps even requiring no more maintenance ever. 2cv's have been known to do this. Check with your owner's manual for more information.
Hmm maybe you are right.. as I tried the car again just now and even though the h oil level is below what its supposed to it functions just as it should, and I said "good car, good car"
I found my Bx very Quirky. For instance it would break down all the time, apart from when Young Female girlfriends were in the Car. I think it really liked to have a suspension workout, the back seats. It would also make many weird gurgling sounds while I was on the Job. Strange Car, I miss it loads. It met its final demise when I rammed a Vauxhall Astra at 55Mph on the A1.The Astra driver was very shocked, but my Rear Suspension collapsed at the same time.
How odd that you think a Bertone designed car is so ugly! Also, did this ugliness creep up on you after you had bought the car? If it offends you so much why did you buy it in the first place? How strange!
Ohh I apologise I did not know it was a rule that one has to like Bertone designs.
Hmm...Your comments worry me a little bit. I am contemplating to change my ZX for a BX diesel, I am in love with Citroen spirit and would stick to the brand. I am particularly worried about the hydraulic system, hope your car is one of the exceptions for the other comments does not pinpoint the system as a recurrent problem. ;-/
When you are to buy a bx by some reason, thoroughly check the H-system, because if there is one leak or failure it spreads, I don't know how or why, but it does, like domino pieces. I recommend that you drive around for a good while, use the elevation system and break hard to test the H system, also keep an eye on the level of H oil as you drive, if it changes there is probably a leak. Another tip is also to drive the car upon card board and use all the hydraulic functions and if it leaks you will be able to see it on the cardboard.
