I purchased my c2 1.6 vts (125bhp) about 1 year ago and touch wood all that has gone wrong was the cd changer and the manifold coming lose back from sheffield. again looking at some of these comments it would have put me off straight away, but I would have to disagree with some because at the end of the day you test drive the car before you buy so any gearbox faults surely would be noticable. mine has been superchipped, bmc filter fitted, a full peco exhaust, kent race cams and I have embarrased a lot of idiots who sit at the side of me under estimating the car
i would recommend this car to anyone, personally if I was buying one I would go for the gt or vts due to the lively engines. however has I found make sure you run the car because these are rev happy engines however some people abuse the car all the time so you will get engine knocking piston slap ect basically a thrashed car which will cause you nothing but grieve. if still unsure visit www.c2sc.com these provide forums dedicated to the c2 so you can get a feeling of the cars good bits and bad bits...
I have a citroen c2 vtr and I find the paddle shift gear change fantastic. I have in past had suzuki swift gtis and other hot hatches, but I think the little citroen is great. the car before this I had was a daihatsu yrv turbo.
Dear all.
Please help!
My friend was in a serious accident in may last year where his passenger, his friend, was killed! (almost him too and he is now on disability as a result!)
He had his Citroen C2 back to the dealer many times after a steering and cutting out problem - in the end it seems to have cut out / lost steering at the worst possible moment leaving them wrapped around a tree after losing control! (the police report states he was doing no more than 50mph on a 60mph road)
To make matters worse, the police have charged him with death by driving without due care and attention and he is in the court process now - if convicted he could face imprisonment!. It was actually me that has looked for citroen c series problems and saw the many posts about them (his is C2 1.4 with all the same parts used as the C3). I was amazed to see all that's written about this car and it seems to me it should be Citroen in court not my friend!
My friend, Michael, is 31 years old, a father of a beautiful baby girl, has NEVER had a ticket of any kind, never had an accident before, has driven large Mercedes vans throughout Europe without a scratch - as well as cars big and small - he IS a good driver, but what chance has ANY driver got with these "deathtraps"?
If you can take time to provide any factual evidence that can be used in his defense we would be forever in your debt. anything such as reports, emails, letters etc etc.
Many thanks in anticipation of any help given.

I have had a C2 1.6 VTR for one day and it has failed 3 times!!!!! The sensodrive has cut out 3 times and I have not been able to start it for at least 1 hours after!!! Taking it to a main dealers on Monday; hopefully they can fix it. If not, I don't know what to do???!!! Any ideas? It's a snowflake and auto flashin the same time!? Please help!!!!!!
I've have C2 1.6. Had it for 1 week now and the car keeps cutting out. A snow flake sign keep flashing saying auto and a dash were it shows the gear number. I don't want to get rid of the car because it seems OK apart from that. Is this problem fixable and how much?
18th May 2009.
Bought my wife the 1.6 Citroen C2 VTR Sensodrive for her birthday on May 7th this year. It's the 2006 model with blue interior and and rear/side blue windows and all other windows Black & 24000 miles on the clock.
Like many others I find the auto gear change lagging, and tend to use the paddles from 2nd gear both up and down.
The brakes are ""DEADLY"" and only a small amount of pressure on the brake pedal is sufficient, stamping on the brakes would put you through the windscreen if not wearing a seat belt.
The suspension is a bit hard on rough road surfaces, but eases off the faster you go.
The seats in both front and rear are very comfortable, and there is only a small blind spot to the rear of the car.
Manual gear change is a little ropey to say the least and the lag in Manual 1st & 2nd gear is a little annoying, but it is fast and feels sporty to drive.
One small problem I found is, when depressing the brake and inserting the key to start the car, the key won't turn at times, turning the steering wheel from the lock position usually fixes this, but not all of the time.
My opinion, nice little car when driven correctly, most people are not used to driving an Automatic and it takes a little time to get used to it.
I used a petrol additive for one 1/2 tank of petrol to clean the engine before changing to a full tank of Shell Optimax and "WOW" what a difference in both power and mileage. It's a big difference for me compared with driving my 1998 Peugeot 1.8. the Peugeot is slow pulling away from a flat start compared to the VTR, but the Peugeot has a super smooth gear change, almost silent inside and no road noise at all with Pirellie tyres.
Still, I like the VTR and so does my wife and, it certainly is an EYE TURNER wherever we go. Only had it just over a week and so far no major problems, I will wait and see, but a good tip I read on the reviews is to disconnect the battery for a reset.

Just bought a Citroen C2 VTR, the automatic gear change from 1 to 2 is terrible. Regret buying this car, should have stuck to my old Nissan Micra.
I am 23, and have had 22 cars, and my new 2006 C2 VTR Sensodrive is by far the best. All you people have had problems with the later models that have been amended on the newer C2's. And have probably been thrashed about by their previous owners!
Yes the gearbox is a little different to other autos, but like a manual I love it. Once you know how to use it, you will love the car, and speaking from experience it leaves the Fiesta ST behind if you know how to drive. It handles like a dream, but in the wet you get a lot of oversteer.
Would recommend the C2 VTR, it is a rocket and you need to use the high octane fuel. The best is Optimax, then you will really notice a difference.
The C2 is a head turner. I have it in a bright red and everyone looks at it. Hoping to join the C2 club; if anyone's in it, please let me know what it's like?
I own a Citroen VTR, and I've had it only a year and it's broken down three times. The car stops and then the auto and a snowflake appears. I've brought it back to the Citroen garage and had the clutch changed, which cost me 400, and then it broke down again and they told me it was a GEAR box problems, which cost me another 200.
The car took downloads in the engine and gearbox, which should have fixed the problem, got the car back for five days, and then yet again it broke down with the same problem, so now it's back in the garage and now they think it's a part that needs to be replaced, which will cost 800.
I think Citroens are a nightmare, especially the semi autos. I would not recommend it.
I had a Nissan for years and it never gave me any problems, then got a Peugeot, which the steering wheel locked and nearly killed me, then I got a Citroen and problems continue.
Don't touch french cars... stick with Japanese... trust me!!!
