2005 Citroen C4 VTR+ HDI from UK and Ireland - Comments

"I only hope its as reliable as my old car"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

At first I purchased a C3 Pluriel.

The brakes squealed all the time, the drivers door creaked and groaned, it leaked and the general build quality wasnt that good.

It was replaced by the dealer by a C4 1.6 SX. HDI. First impressions were good, However the car only lasted 2 days before oil leaked out onto the driveway.

The Dealership then replaced

it with the car I now have had for about 2 weeks C4 VTR+.2.0 HDI

It lasted 2 days before it broke down on my way to work, they (Dealership) had it for a week. An air intake valve jammed causing the car to shake causing a knocking sound from under the right side wheel arch.

This apparently is a known fault to Citroen and a "fix" is on the way, or so I'm informed by the dealership.

Also I think the car pulls to the right, even though the Dealership insist its OK.

I've e mailed Citroen, but as yet have had no reply to my enquiry.

General comments?

The big gripe I have got is the windscreen wipers wipe on the wrong side of the windscreen.

The passenger gets a better view in bad weather than the driver.

Apart from the above the car is very comfortable and is quick off the mark.

Road noise is low when driving at speed.

I have been running a Pluriel for about 2 years now and like most soft top cars it is prone to leaking (just look on the owners forums for Z3, MGF's etc etc). However, it is the only soft top that you can close the roof on at speeds over 20mph and still travel at motorway speeds with a garden shed in the back.

I am about to change to a C4 Hatch VTR+ so will be very interested to see any build quality difference. As for my Citroen dealer they have been fine about doing any repairs as warranty work so I have no problem with them. The only issue is the time it takes to get parts, usually at least 2 weeks and sometimes closer to 4 weeks.

It sounds like you have had a particularly bad run of luck with the Pluriel and the C4.

Kinda odd you mention the wipers seeing as the view the passenger gets is better, but its only better right next to the rear view mirror and I don't tend to find myself looking at that point out of the window.

The C4 wipers are virtually identical on both sides of the car due to the type of wipers they are. Not like most other wipers that wipe one side to the other they wipe from the middle out on both sides. So views aren't really obscured unless you enjoy looking at the little black part near the rearview mirror or the bit that doesn't get wiped where you would be looking at the wing of your car.

Rest I can't really comment on and sounds like you had a bit of bad luck, but the wipers thing is a little odd to complain about. Considering its near enough identical on both sides.
