1999 Citroen Dispatch review from UK and Ireland
"Suited for urban usage. Under-powered for motorways"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Regularly, the locating devices for the sliding doors break.
After about 2 years, the door locks became difficult to open. This was down to poor maintenance and incorrect lubricant.
After 3 years, the accelerator cable snapped and the rear exhaust silencer fell off within the space of a week.
General comments?
These vans are unsuitable for long distance motorway driving.
Above 60mph the cabin is very noisy.
The basic 1.9D is under-powered, but has withstood the bulk of its life at full throttle impeccably, with no faults or signs of wear. Average fuel consumption was 30mpg.
Security of vehicle contents is pathetic. Once, when I locked my keys inside, it took me only a few seconds to open the front passenger door with a coat hanger.
However, the engine immobiliser is effective at preventing theft OF the vehicle.
Turbo Diesel or the later HDi models are a better choice for regular motorway driving.
