1999 Citroen Saxo 1.1i review from UK and Ireland
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Ignition Switch stuck in the on Position
March 2001 - could not turn it off (24000 miles on the clock) Cost full set of Locks approx £180 - out of warranty of course - A VTR was in at the same as mine with same problem.
Ignition switch Stuck in the on Position
June 2003 48000 miles on the clock
Cost £112 but only ignition lock changed
on this occasion (wouldn't change all locks again as if you have only one set of keys with you - big problem cannot lock car or refuel!!! It appears that a lot of Saxos have this problem with the locks - having spoken to the Receptionist at local dealers - note the plural in dealers.
Have the normal ongoing problem with the Airbag light staying on - in this case it is the Passenger seat switch getting disturbed with the seat movement
(3 door car). I simply refix it at both ends in a level position and light goes out again.
Disc Pad and discs replaced twice now.
But my mother says good brakes are essential and her Peugoet 205 has had 3
replacements (but shes done 138k!!)
Seats are now well worn and offer no support.
General comments?
I love my Saxo, but!!! I feel that the
dealer service is not good. (I judge this on my families experience as this is my first car.)
Citroen Customer Services will not talk directly to customers and insist that if you have a problem then you must talk to a Dealer and he/they will put your case to Citroen. This doesn't work well as you do not know what is said and my latest ignition problem took 2 days to get an answer - so no car for 3 days as repair then still required. In addition it commits you to using a Dealership and I think I get better service from the Local garage my parents use. I am seriously thinking of using the small claims court re my ignition switch problems.
I was 18 when I got the car and the two years free insurance was well worth having.
With the exception of the ignition problems I feel the car has given good srvice, but WILL NOT buy another Citroen
purely as a result of their lack of Customer Service.
Maybe My mother will let me have here Peugeot when it gets to 200K. I can hope.
