1999 Citroen Saxo VTR from UK and Ireland - Comments

"Great value, high performance"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Ignition block failed meaning that the car failed to start on a number of occasions, this also affected the heating system and made the car stall quite a lot. When contacted, Citroen UK simply said that this is a common Saxo fault and that they will repair it at a cost of £150.

Also there is a constant flashing of the airbag light on the dash. Citroen cannot find an airbag fault and cannot stop the light, which I don't really mind but it can sometimes be distracting.

The cigarette lighter is broken.

That's about it.

General comments?

Good all-round car, surprisingly quick with incredible acceleration. Quick-shift gearbox allows faster gear-changes for higher acceleration.

Top-end speed around 135-140mph.

A lot of fun to be had in this car!

I'm sorry but you are wrong, the top speed of the saxo vtr is 115mph...you see it only has 90bhp and there is no way it will pull 140!!

Get your facts right.

As for the ignition block - had just same symptoms - engine cut out at 80mph on m6, AA unable to fix and towed home - heater fan power sterring and heated rear window switch also. said it was likely to be ignition system - dealer fix only

found the problem myself

One wire on the block connector (multi-plug) on top of the rocker cover - - broken stands on one of the three (ithink) grey wires - no doubt damaged to being unplugged at its last service...

Had to get an aftermarket stereo block connector the wones with the tiny connectors (for the big multi-plug on the back to replace the really small 'female spde terminal - replacd a crimped onto the other end of the loom - cr restarted first time - and now runs more punchier -cost - £5.99 and 29 spare leads from the stereo.

Actually 115 isn't right either - got mine doing 120mph on the M25 at night - doesn't even scream at you - and the only thing stopping me from pushing her further was the thought of speed cameras! It wasn't big and certainly wasn't clever, and I won't be doing it again.

Just to confuse things further the saxo 2 puts out 100 bhp as opposed to the 90 of the saxo 1 and I agree that a 120 mph top end is about right cheers
