1995 Citroen Xantia SX review from UK and Ireland
"A good car for the money, though running costs are high"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Clutch cable snapped after 7500 miles of driving.
Dodgy electrics causes warning lights to flash on the dashboard... particularly the "STOP" light (the dealer told me this was due to worn brake pads)
New brake pads and disc's on all 4 wheels after 8000.
Slight oil leak from the rear of the gasket.
Strange static "clicking" noise from underneath the vehicle.
Alarm problems - Internal alarm has to be disabled every time the car is centrally locked otherwise the alarm activates itself every 30-40 seconds.
Central Locking issues - Key fob "forgets" how to unlock the vehicle. I thought this was a battery problem, but no, the fob needed reprogramming.
Wear on rear seat belts due to them getting trapped every time i put the rear seats up and down.
General comments?
I'm not convinced by the fuel economy. Once up to motorway speeds you can almost watch the petrol gauge moving downwards. Economy around the city is even worse (though I expected this to be low due to engine size).
Citroen dealer always busy in my area. Could not get a Citroen service because of a 2 week waiting period meaning that I had to use another garage (though this option is generally cheaper!)
Watch out for the second-hand Citroen warranty. When I tried to put my vehicle in for repairs (undrivable due to clutch problems) the 2 week waiting period was to much for me (as I use my car for business) so by using another garage I couldnt claim on the warranty.
Watch out for rusting brake discs.
Excellent handling, although difficult to get the power down in the wet.
Brilliant drive - Very comfortable and suspension is class.
Air Conditioning is the best I have ever had in a car.
ABS is perfect. Never once have my wheels locked for more than a split second.
