1999 Citroen Xantia Exclusive review from UK and Ireland
"Affordable, reliable, luxury motoring"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Most recently the throttle cable has frayed and needed replacing.
Other than that, if you feed the car oil every 6000 miles and wash/wax the paintwork regularly, it stays in excellent condition.
The engine picks up no dust/dirt so it looks like new every time you lift the bonnet.
General comments?
Not the flashiest car in the world, but it looks good if you care for it.
My other car is a BMW318Ci (2001) and the Citroen tears strips of it for motorway comfort and noise, before you know it your dial is nearing 100mph (which is obviously illegal!)
The Xantia TD downfall is rural driving as it's a bit sluggish and the TD engine isn't the quietest ever, but it's still very acceptable.
The inside is just full of toys, electric windows/mirrors, heated electric seats, rain sensitive wipers, CD stack system, wheel mounted controls, Trafficmaster system, front/side airbags/alloys/soft black leather seats and trim - in short it's got everthing except satnav - but you can buy that.
If you can't afford a jag/bmw or a merc, this would be a good compromise for luxury without the prestige.

| Seems a good buy, but time will tell |
| Better than the BX and much nicer than the whale-like C5. In auto form an absolute winner |
