Front suspension failed at 90,000miles.
Heater/Air Con failed at 94,000 miles.
Drivers electric window failed at 105,000 miles.
Drivers door hinge needed re-welding at 102,000 miles.
Rear suspension started to fail at 100,000 miles.
Was initially a reliable, cheap to run VERY spacious (estate) workhorse.
I am 6'3" and never felt cramped.
Tons of room with the rear seats down.
The 1.9 diesel lump never felt underpowered except above 100mph.
Fantastic fuel economy.
Hydro pneumatic suspension has the adavatage that you feel immediately when time has come for it to be changed. A classic suspension is to be changed between 40000 and 65000 miles. You hardly notice its gone bad untillits too late. The Xantia suspension, front and rear went bad after 90000 and 100000 miles respectively which is more than OK.
I had a recent rear suspension failure on my 1998 1.9 TD, I found that if I had greased the actuator levers (underneath, centre rear) this would not have happened, the levers would not have seized and saved me time and money... a worthwhile tip for Xantia owners.
I own a 1994 Xantia 1.9 TDSX. 21,000 miles when I bought it; now has 114,000.
It's extremely comfortable and drives like a dream. Only had Spheres (suspension) replaced twice. Still has the original exhaust!
Pulls a caravan with ease. Good workhorse. Very economical. Used daily.
I ignore comments such as 'When are you changing the banger?' as what do you replace it with? Obvious answer is - latest model Xantia.
