1999 Citroen Xantia 2.0 Hdi Activa review from Portugal

"Impressive handling - carefull maintenance"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Common rail injection system failed suddenly. Without any kind of notice the engine simply stopped. Root cause is some kind of fuel cut-off valve.

Airbag light keeps playing tricks. Related to wiring and bad connectors under the drivers seat.

Engine electronic light turns on from time to time. root cause unknown.

General comments?

The Xantia Activa is probably of the least understood hydropneumatic citroens of the last few years. I have not yet found mechanics who deeply understand the car.

The car's handling is superb. The zero-roll system is always present, at the cost of a certain comfort loss compared to normal Xantias.

The 2.0 Hdi engine with 110 HP lives well up to the job. the Xantia activa weights almost 1500 kg! The engine is lively, specially at low revs.

Since the engine is a 8v diesel, it loses its usefulness beyond 3500 RPM.

Fuel consumption is really low. a full tank (65l) accounts for an excess of 1000 km in mixed city/highway.

The car has excellent brealing and keeps its stability on dry roads.

The rear does tend to lose control on wet roads. Some people blame the zero-roll. This is partially true because it forces much more the tyres.

The gearbox is fine. Well designed.

The interiors are a little bit old fashiond, but all controls are easily reacheable.

The car is really a very exciting car to drive, but, as most hyropneumatic citroens, requires constant care.

Better than the BX and much nicer than the whale-like C5. In auto form an absolute winner
