1993 Citroen Xantia SX review from UK and Ireland

"Superb"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Rear spheres had to be replaced.

Accumulator sphere had to be replaced.

Rear arm bearings had to be replaced (along with two rear tyres)

Needed new hydraulic pump due to the previous owner neglecting to change the accumulator sphere.

Remote locking plip needed to be fixed (£25 sterling) replacement came from a specialist.

General servicing parts needed changing - oil/filter, air filter, cam belt and fuel-filter.

General comments?

I changed my 1984 Ford Orion 1.6i Ghia for a Citroen Xantia due to the fact that I needed a car that was going to pass its next M.O.T (rust finnished the Orion). I can say that I am very pleased with the Xantia (I would have never given a Citroen a second glance 2 years ago). It swallows up the bumps with ease (although it looses out on handling to the Orion) and comfort. The car (Turbo Diesel) has no problems with keeping up with equivelent sized (cc) petrol engined cars whilst acheving 45 mpg out on the open road. As its the "middle of the road" Sx model it has front and rear electric windows, electric sunroof, front foglights, rear head rests, remote central locking, a decent radio fitted, ABS brakes, PAS and the infamous hydro-pneumatic suspension (can be raised to give the same ground clearance as a Freelander!). The seats are very comfortable (in a grey cloth with red flecks) and adjust to suit almost all sizes of passengers. The rear seats split 60/40 plus have a ingenious ski flap, that allows you to carry 4 passengers whilst carrying a thin item up to 7'long (e.g wood or a pole). I would reccomend a Xantia Turbo Diesel to annyone, but to advise them to buy the best they can afford an to ONLY buy one with service history.
