1998 Citroen Xsara VTS review from UK and Ireland

It blew an inlet manifold.

It leaks petrol a little, but that should be easy to fix.

On one side of the steering wheel the CD player LEDs don't glow been like that since I have had it (minor gripe).

The boot lid hydraulic cylinders failed at only 3 years old.

The hinges on the rear seats are weak and bend easily so you need to be careful when folding them.

Like another person said you fill it up and next thing it says 3/4 full and other times without filling it it later goes back to 100% full...

Fast car, but with 167 hp I expect to be worrying Clio 172's and VR6's not slightly nippier than Golf GT-i's and 2 litre Vectra's.

Handles well, but understeers a little.

The fact that it's a 137mph Xsara works both ways sometimes you can annoy Porsche Boxsters and Subaru drivers by getting the jump on them and other times people block you I assume thinking this is only a crappy granny wagon so you often find slow cars baulking you.

In fact with other quick cars like the Bravo HGT I found people wanted to race me, but with the Xsara I find myself more likely to be held up by people who underestimate how much faster my car is.

Its comfortable and well appointed inside with excellent quality seats, but things that matter like switchgear and inside handles on doors and boot are flimsy.

Very cheap for the money you won't get another 137mph 167bhp car which is of the same age for as little money.

Ins GP 16 though - ouch!
