"Superb long distance commuter"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Dealer fixed a number of faults before I took delivery: dead battery, discs, suspension bushes, water pump. A week after I picked it up the radiator went, and was replaced under warranty.

Since then, touch wood, pretty trouble free.

A slight weep from the power steering ram gets no worse.

A slightly lazy passenger window is gradually getting slower and slower...

Lumpy cold start getting sufficient manky that i'll have to change the glowplugs soon, not bad at 86k.

Has a peculiar habit of getting through headlamp bulbs, To add insult to injury if you don'y replace the one that's blown it seem to overload the remaining one and that will pop very quickly afterwards.

Slight g'box whine at 49k in 3rd, no worse, but 5th has a slight whine now too.

General comments?

Superb midrange grunt, though lack of go below about 1800prm can catch you out on steeper hills.

Stunning economy. Loads more grunt than my old 1.8 Sierra which did 40mpg, this does upwards of 55mpg.

Seats not that comfortable over greater distance.

Brakes tend to be a bit "grabby" no matter what you do to them.

Trim a bit of a "black hole"

Car is now up to 97k and running well, though gearbox never really enjoyable, whine gets no worse. Glowplugs changed which improved starting no end. With a very careful right foot, and free flow stainless exhaust, car just cracks 60mpg on the 80mile back lane commute.
