2000 Daewoo Lanos X Series review from Australia and New Zealand
"A good looking, good performance, reasonable reliability with not so good maintenance"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The heater fan seized.
This has been fixed.
The heater/air con fan speed control stopped working on the 1,2,3 settings and would only work on 4 ie full blast.
This was fixed, but has since happened again. hopefully will be fixed again next time.
A hose in the engine bay cracked open.
This has been fixed.
A clip came off some part in the engine bay and made a terrible noise when accelerating. The foreman of the work shop took me for a drive and listened for the noise then opened the bonnet and found the problem in seconds.
The cable for adjusting the fan from recirculate to fresh broke. They ordered a new one had my car all day only to tell me that the cable was the wrong size and that I would have to come back when they got the new one in.
General comments?
The car is over all pretty good, but I have had a lot of problems with the air/heat fan etc. The car comes with 3years schedualed servicing which was the clincher for me buying the car. I have had some good service from the dealer, but I have also had some bad service. Example of what I call bad service: I took the car in for its last service and told them about the things that needed to be fixed also.
1 the fan only works on 1,2,3
2 the fan has now seized.
3 the hose had cracked.
4 the was a loud noise when accelerating.
5 the fresh/recirc cable was broken.
All of is still covered under warranty.
They fixed none of it that day despite having my car from (:30am until 5:30pm.
They told me they needed to order in a new fan and cable for 2 and 5.
I bought the car back 2 weeks later when the had the fan and cable.
They had the car this time from 10am to 5:30pm and fixed 2 and 3. And told me that the cable they ordered for my car was the wrong size and they had ordered another.
Some of these problems are yet to be resolved, but I will probably have to take it back for a third full day.
They car handles very well and is very functional. I would buy again, but I will probably change the place that I get to service the vehicle.
