This car is a death trap and money pit.
Never buy this type of car.
I have probably the most k/m on my Daewoo lanos s. It is a 2002. I loved the little car at first. I realize now that was only because it was my first new car. I jumped the gun buying it because I worked for the dealer ship. Trusting the boss, these new to Canada cars were flawless. That is my fault for believing a car salesman. However I have about 120,000 k/m on this lemon and do believe it only lasted this long because it is all highway k/m. The check engine light seems to flash when I step on the gas pedal over 2000 r.p.m and if I shut it off while highway speeds and turn it on again in gear only then it shuts off. My dad is a warranty tech for a Daewoo dealer ship in Canada, and still cannot figure any thing out with this car. I believe timing on 1.5l is a major problem. My new problem is the typical Daewoo disc brakes witch I have turned my self, to spec and yet have still seemed to warp. In addition, my car seems to runs like a dirt bike lately. It surges while driving at low R.P.M and chugs almost as if I am in too high of a gear for the speed I am doing. It embarrasses me to drive it. Also my luck I tagged a curb in a snowstorm. I'm still waiting on parts and that's with inside Daewoo connections I feel sorry for anyone who thinks they have a good Daewoo. There is no such thing just wait and you will see. I hope that G.M can shed some quality on this junk. I wish you Good luck with your cars.
Would not be my first choice again. Within the first 20,000 miles the whole engine was taken apart twice as the car kept dying. Only this morning I have had to replace the Ball Bearings in the back for the second time (40,000 miles). Numerous other bits have fallen off the car. The car was cheap, but not worth the hassle.
I have a small used car business and purchased six lanos models last month. One thing that I've noticed is that the vacuum lines tend to collapse-especially the line located on the top rear of the valve cover. Check to see if this is the case on yours. The vaccum leak will make it run to lean and the computer will compensate by enriching the mixture. Basically it will run bad. I, ve fixed this on three of the six. I, ve also had three of the thermostat housings come apart. I found one on line today, but in the past I've had to re-assemble the housings with epoxy.
Hope this helps!
