1999 Daewoo Lanos SE review from Australia and New Zealand
"Cheap, reliable, disposable"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Air conditioning makes has always been noisy (The dealer assures me that there is nothing wrong with it). It works, so for now I will leave it as is.
Timing belt needs replacing at 90,000kms. Don't bother trying to do this yourself unless you are prepared to take the power steering pump off.
There is a big blind spot in the rear of the vehicle, and the pillars each side of the windscreen are over large and cause a blind spot.
The engine is fussy with petrol types. This may sound a little silly, but if I fill up at certain brand of petrol stations (I will not mention the name, but it is one of the bigger chains around) the car will idle very poorly, almost stalling.
Driving for an hour or more will leave me with a slight back ache.
The front seats slowly lean back wards and you are driving. It is not noticable while driving, but nearly every time I go to drive I have to tilt the seat up just a little.
Factory CD player died at 10,000. Replaced under warranty, now skips over the slightest bumps.
General comments?
If you can buy a brand new car for $13,000 what do you expect? For the price it is a great little run about. If it lasts me 10 years i will be happy.
There is surprisingly enough room in the back seat for 2 adults to sit comfortably.
I have had this vehicle since new and it has not once broken down or let me down.
