The things that have have gone wrong with the car so far are:
- clutch was shot & had to be replaced.
- air conditioning had to be re-gassed. (in warranty)
- and that's all until recently we discovered a head gasket leak that needs to be seen to. but it was just a rocker cover which cost $20. lol!
I must tell you that if you bye a Lanos '1999' I would strongly suggest you get an NRMA inspection or an inspection of some sort to other country's.Also
The comments in point form:-)
- The performance of the car is good for it's engine size.
- The Daewoo has nice seats (a velvety cloth trim)
but doesn't like changing gears quickly.
- the lanos has very good handling with its stiff, but no to stiff suspension.
- And the road noise is pretty loud in the cabin, but can be accepted.
- lastly I bought this car this year for 4,500 Grand with 144,000 kilometres on the clock and always starts under 1 sec in any weather conditions.
But I would suggest you only buy a Lanos for a station car or city runabout because long journeys with hills and rough roads etc can be a strain on the little engine, perfect for 1st car!! The power steering is not to stiff it is at the normal mark. Overall it is cheap to buy, cheap to run and is fun to drive its also very responsive!!

Hi! I have a '99 lanos and it's great. I bought it for $3990 with 165,000 on the clock. People annoy me with there rubbish like daewoo isn't any good, anyway good on you; great review.
I bought a Daewoo Lanos 1997 model last week for a runaround, and it's got 229,000klms. My other car is a big 4 litre 6, and we drive the Daewoo more because of fuel economy and the surprising reliability! I love it!
Hey, I'm only 14 and my dad let me drive our red Lanos 1.5 litre 5-speed and it was fun. I'm really into cars and already know how to drive manual, and I found it has a nice gearbox, a good little engine and impressive handling; it was heaps fun throwing it into corners at 40km without a single screech or slip. (Lanos' are known for good handling, which is by Lotus). It does 0-100km pretty quick for a 1.5L.
Overall our Lanos is a really reliable quick little car, and we love it. I would highly recommend it!!
