1991 Daihatsu Rugger FJ76 review from Australia and New Zealand
"Excellent truck on and off road, at a bargain price"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Not very much. Interior mirror became loose at 150000kms, was replaced. Rear door hinge was replaced. General service items, discs changed, new tyres.
End of exhaust pipe has started to rust very slightly. Front grille has become loose.
General comments?
This is an excellent offroader and really good value for money. There are very few other cars available for less than $10000 with an intercooled turbo diesel, full electics, central locking etc.
Power is very good, and torque exceptional. Goes excellently offroad with great climbing ability, although low range for descending is not quite perfect.
Suspension on this model is hard due to leaf springs, the adjustable dampers are really just a gimmick.
Fuel economy is very good at 30mpg+, there are few other turbo diesels with this economy and power at such a low price.
Also getting accessories for this vehicle is quite difficult, especially bullbars.
