1971 Datsun 240Z review from North America
"The ultimate sleeper Z"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
None so far, keeping my finger crossed.
General comments?
I bought this car as a piece of crap for about a thousand dollars, in March of 08 to make it live again. I thought about restoring it, but that wouldn't be nearly as much fun as making it insanely fast, so the first thing to go was the 2.4L.
I located a used 2.8L for about 100 bucks, through some 1mm overbored forged pistons in, swapped the N47 head for a p97 to lower the compression to 8.8, and bought a Garret turbo. Had a custom exhaust welded up, slapped triple weber 45dcoe carbs on, fabbed up a custom intake, and pretty soon I had a conservatively tuned 300hp motor. Plan on upping the boost soon to get about 400hp.
Found a 80's T5 tranny and 3.90 gears to complete the drivetrain. I put Tokico illumana struts, Tokico lowering springs, Hawk brake pads, and Eibach swaybars to get the handling where it ought be. I wanted it to look stock, so I painted it a factory light blue color and restored the interior to factory specs. Talk about a sleeper!
