"A Lemon"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Clutch (3times)

Engine

Clutch master cylinder

Brake cylinder

Trunk leak

CV Joints and Boots.

General comments?

This was my teenage daughter's second car. It appeared to to a very solid and clean car when we purchased it. It was a very fun and economical sporty car.

However, after about one month of driving the master clutch went out. Had to be replaced 3 times until they figured out it was a bad hose not allowing fluid down to the brake and clutch line. "Something they have never seen before".

Things just went down hill from there. It was just constant repairs. This car stayed in the repair shop. We kept routine maintenance up on this car. There always something going out. We no longer own this car. Something happen to the brakes and my daughter went into a tailspin, landed in someones front yard and the engine went up in flames. Needless to say we no longer on the car and will never own another.

I have no idea of what this individual was talking about. I have owned my 1996 Dodge Avenger for about 2 years and have never had a problem with it other than having to replace my fuel filter after running some EFI cleaner through the fuel injectors. Other than that and some general maintenance, such as oil filters, air filter, etc., the car has operated flawlessly.

The fact that it was a teenager driving the car leads me to believe that the reason for the problems with their clutch was due to inexperience with a manual transmission. Riding the clutch for even a few months in town will completely take out your slave cylinder on your hydraulic clutch.

As far as the whole "engine caught fire" occurence... WOW! I have never heard of such an event happening with any vehicle that had "brake" problems. Going off the road into a neighbors yard doesn't seem like the cars fault. The only times I have known anyone to go off the road was because of inexperience or neglecting to drive appropriately for the road condititions.

Although everything I have said is based only on what the author, unknown, wrote on the 21st of September, 2002; I believe that using the experiences I have had with my Avenger and common sense reinforce and back what I have said.

The 1995 Dodge Avenger was not a good car! It had a lot of kinks in it. The 1998-1999 were a little better. It was a car thrown out on the show room floor to impress people. It is a lemon. My 1995 had the same problems and more. Was always in the shop.

Um maybe your daughter had something to do with it.
