1997 Dodge Avenger ES review from North America
"Amazing car for a low price."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Clip to hold the passenger visor came loose.
Brakes wear quickly.
Tires are the same way.
Few rattles, but I think the wiper was responsible for most of it.
Both engine belts broke at 64,000 miles.
Blew an oxygen sensor, but it was my own fault. I was going over 150mph.
General comments?
This car is incredibly quick and handles like a dream. It's not very fast right off the mark, but can smoke most cars costing under $100,000 after it catches up to speed. Mine did have an aftermarket performance chip and a racing air filter. I was planning on really making it a head-turner, but a streak of bad luck put a halt to that. I unfortunately made the mistake of putting the maximum pressure in the tires after I noticed they were looking a little low, not realizing the change in traction that I caused. The next day while driving down a very steep & sharp turn, I lost control of the car, fishtailed, and slammed into an oncoming car at 40mph. The impact tore off the left rear wheel, shattered the windows, and crumpled the trunk area up like a sheet of paper. The car is completely totaled, yet my girlfriend and I walked away shaken, but unharmed. Good thing this car has a 5-star safety rating.
