2001 Dodge Caravan Sport review from North America
"I'd say that Minivan's are better than SUV's"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
As soon as we first bought home the van, we could not get the rear hatch open so we took it back and it was fixed. All it needed was a lock switch.
3 months later the engine light came on and the dealer said it needed an oxygen sensor for $150. When I was driving back home from the dealer, the engine light came back on again and I took it back to the dealer, and they said it was a bad canister that was rusted and is located under the fender of the van, which cost another $350. So that day I spent a total of $500 on behalf of the engine light.
The next day the engine light came back on again, which at that point I was getting angry. This time the dealer said there was nothing wrong. They disconnected the battery and then reconnected it, and then the light was off, then after driving 30 minutes later the light came on again, but this time I went to Pep Boys and they said the same thing as the dealer, which was nothing. Both these places even used a scanner and nothing came up, and there was nothing these people could do, so now I have to see that stupid engine light every day. Un freakin believable! Anyone know what else should I do? Not that I have anymore mechanical problems with it.
General comments?
OK, we got this 2001 Dodge Caravan because our unsafe 2001 Chevy Blazer was totaled in an accident and left us with some injuries, which I'm currently on disability because of. We bought this van used from a dealer that said this was a one owner van, and had all the maintenance records from the last owner. We also looked up the Vin number on Carfax, and it came up clean. There was also no damage and the van ran very well. It's a great looking van with plenty of power.
The handling could be better. However this Minivan gets 21MPG around town and 27MPG highway. We drove it to the Grand Canyon and it never gave us problems in that very hot area, even though the engine light was on.
This van has been reasonably good, but I probably won't buy another. At least it's better than the Blazer.
