2001 Dodge Caravan review from North America
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I want to update everyone about the serpentine belt on the Dodge Caravan.
I had mine replaced for the fourth time in six weeks. I was able to conclude that driving through water or snow was the reason.
My Caravan was manufactured in Feb 2000. When I left the repair shop this morning, the mechanic showed me a technical service bulletin dated Feb 19, 1999. The subject of the bulletin was "Serpentine belt comes off when driving through deep snow". So that means that Chrysler knew of this problem for as much as a year before mine was manufactured.
In the repair procedures, it tells the mechanic to remove the tensioner and place it in a vise. I am not sure why, because the mechanic said all he had to do was to remove the existing bolt, put the shield in place and install the new $16 bolt that was required. It looks to me like it is something they should have redesigned when the bulletin was issued.
