1986 Dodge Colt E review from North America
"The greatest little car around!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Seats have worn very badly, but were not too great when I bought the car.
Clutch went out at about 158000 miles, I had a new one put in and now it works fine.
Drive shafts are wearing out, I'll need to replace them soon.
All other problems with the car have been things like brakes and fuel filters going out, the kind of problems that you would expect to happen anyway.
General comments?
It is a very reliable little car, I've driven it pretty hard and it still runs well, and it ALWAYS starts on the first turn of the key. I consider the Colt to be super dependable.
The Colt is also good on gas, I can go really far on a full tank.
One downside to this car is that it lacks power. My car does anyway, it has some problems that may cause it to not run as well as other colts, so maybe I'm wrong here. My car has problems trying to go uphill in 4th gear, I often have to downshift it into 3rd (it is a 4 speed, not a 5).
Overall I'd say it's a great little car. I've been hard on it and it can handle everything I've put it through. I've loaded it down with camping stuff and gone on trips that most people would only take an SUV on. I'm very impressed that a small car with so may miles on it can run as reliably as this. You should buy one if you can, but the colt is getting harder to find as dodge no longer sells them.
