1985 Dodge Colt review from North America
"Reliable hi mileage highly recommended"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Holed gas tank.
Rusted out door hinges.
Rusted trunk latch, rusted hole in wheel well, rusted front fender.
Crooked rear wheel spindle, bad wheel bearing, bad front brake calipers, worn
rack and pinion.
Tip: if you let the front brake pads wear out and gouge up the rotors, the repair will be expensive. To prevent this, check the thickness of the pad periodically. If you look through the vent holes in the wheels (use a flashlight, at night, and rotate the wheel until you can see the caliper through the hole) you can see the pad without pulling the wheel off. Keep on eye on those pads, because the calipers tend to stick.
General comments?
I have beat this car bad and it's never left me stranded. Best car I over owned.
Excellent gas mileage, good enough power.
If your rear shocks are old, replace them and see if that doesn't make you feel like it's running on rails!
When my wife bought this car in 1992 I thought it was the ugliest thing I'd ever seen. Its appearance has been growing on me ever since.
