Fuel pump went out way before a fuel pump should ever go out.
It is a very nice truck and can pull anything I ever wanted to pull.
I have owned a 93' dakota sport with the 5.2 as well and it was involved in a slight accident and the truck held together quite well. only thing that was damaged was a motor mount and my front bumper. This truck is a powerhouse! It has one of the lightest bodies for a truck of its class. Untill this very day I have not had a problem with this truck (excepting expected general maintenance) I have raced (and won mind you) many of the new hot rice burners produced due to the fast and the furious craze. This truck holds its own and yes will pull anything you want or could even imagine. (I've pulled a tree trunk nine feet in diameter out of the ground) try that with an s-10. :)
Speaking of accidents, I have had 3 rear enders, two of which were over 60KmPH, (I think that's around 39MPH) and apart from a broken seat lock and the usual expected bumper/tailgate damage, she held together, unlike the S-10 that hit me at 65K,
she was written off.
And, a Hyundai Stellar that came the wrong way down a back alley, around a blind corner and plowed into me at 35 Miles an hour (Speed limit was 10KmPH) ended up looking like a pop can split open and leaking all over... The poor Dodge front bumper, one bumper mount, one indicator cover, and a nick in the paint to be repaired later...yeow! I won that one!
My Dakota has 193000 miles on it. It has the 5.2 liter motor, and the only things replaced have been the starter, radiator, and fuel pump. The fuel gage sending unit is starting to go out so I will fix that shortly. I have owned this truck since March of 1996 when it had 35000 miles on it. I will own this thing until it doesn't run any more.
I just had an accident in mine, and it's running just fine. I was hit hard enough to push my throttle body up into my hood, and bend it and crack my fan cover. And my main seal of my tranny is leaking, but I'm going to fix the seal soon, and except for some hammering the dents out and replacing the passenger side door, it held up like a champ.
The motor is really strong and can push you back in your seat when you put your foot down.
I love this truck, and I will drive it till they quit making gas for it; I won't ever give it up.
