Shortly after purchase gas gauge became erratic.
Fog light system failed.
Factory intalled stereo failed.
Front brakes wear at a high rate, after 5,000 miles they cause vibration due to uneven wear.
At 90,000mi. the engine ignition system failed which required three trips to the dealer to repair.
I bought this vehicle because I liked the size (not big, not small) but the quality is not up to par with Toyota.
Customer survice is terrible, when I had an ignition problem the mechanics were totally lost. I finally gave up on Dodge mechanics and fixed the vehicle myself.
Parts support is terrible, many electrical connectors and components are no longer available unlike competetors.
I own a 93' Dodge Dakota Le and after 10 years its still running great! I've only had to fix a few minor problems. I would never buy any other kind of truck.
My husband owns a 1992 Dodge Dakota 318 he has over 200,000 miles on it he has not replaced anything major only minor things he said he would not buy or drive anything other than a DODGE. And his truck is still running he said when the body goes repaint it. When the motor needs replaced he will replace it. This truck is his baby.
I agree with the other comments here. Also, looking at the other reviews here the Dakota is clearly a dependable truck. Our delivery truck, a '93 with a 3.9 Magnum has 236,000 miles on it and all it needed was a water pump, starter, and one tune-up (at 180,000!) along with the usual wear and tear parts (brakes, v-belt, etc.) and still runs perfectly. It picks up as good as if not better than most cars. I would easily recommend the Dakota to anyone. All vehicles should be this reliable.
The 93 dakota is one great truck. before I bought my 93 which was my first and only vehicle, I liked ford and chevy trucks and swore that dodge wasnt a good choice. now I will never buy anything, but a dakota. I hear complaints about the ram, but have never had anyone tell me they totally dislike their dakota.
I really like my 1993 Dakota LE Club Cab 4x4. the 5.2 is great. Mine has a 4" lift and 32" tires. It has great power and still handles nice with the lift, and will climb anything!
The automatic transmission is still working great.
It is in great shape. I feel that regular maintenance is very important to keeping a vehicle working good for a long time.
The fuel gauge broke twice, now I just use the odometer and low fuel light. I had problems with the cooling system everything has been replaced, has worked great since.
The paint was fading so I had the roof and hood repainted, it lives outside.
Replaced the sound system when it stopped working. Over 192,000 Mi. as of this writing.
This was my second Dakota, first was bare bones'88 ex Forest Ranger truck. Now I bought my 3rd 2008 Dakota. Wife says "git rid of the old truck" but I will still keep it!
