2000 Dodge Dakota SLT review from North America
"A powerhouse truck with comfort"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Had the Upper Ball Joints replaced as per the recall, and the Lower Ball Joints were bad as well. Dodge Dealer did the work and for just the Lower Ball Joints and an alignment, I dished out over $450.00. I got a quote from another mechanic at a smaller shop and he said he would have done it for $250.00!
After a year and a half, I had to replace the front brake pads, rotors, and a right side tie rod end. I consider this normal wear and tear though.
Rear bumper is completely rusted through where the holes for the trailer ball go. The previous owner must have tried to pull something with the step bumper rather than the hitch under the rear bumper and it slightly crinkled the bumper and started to rust.
General comments?
The 4.7 engine in this truck is a beauty! I use to own a 1985 Pontiac Trans Am with a 5.0 under the hood and this trucks power easily compares with the Trans Am I had. I own a pop up camper that weighs in at a ton and this truck pulled it over 100 miles like there was nothing hooked to it. The 4 Wheel Drive in this truck is excellent. 4 point positive traction in the snow makes for a good ride to work in a foot of snow. Also 31" tires get great traction. Believe it or not, I don't have any other issues with this truck even at 115,000 miles.
