This is a great old car!
Muscle cars ended in '71 but '74 in my opinion was REALLY the last year for any power and muscle.
This is a 4 door not a muscle car, but it has been great. Sure, a lot of things have gone out, but hey it's 31 years old and has 106,000 miles (not bad at all for a '74 but still over 100,000)
I replaced each and every thing as it went out with no regrets, and right now it is running great with no problems.
Nothing has gone wrong with the engine or transmission. Things have gone out, but that's normal after 31 years and 100 k miles. The internal engine has not had or caused any problems, and the same with the transmission.
The interior is in great condition besides the roof lining near the back window. The seats are vinyl benches front and rear, but the front bench has split high-back seat backs and a fold down arm rest. No tears or rips in upholstery anywhere, except for on either side of the dash, but not noticeable unless you look for it, and the rear roof lining at rear window, which I will take to an upholstery repair shop.
Plenty of power, especially right from a stop, and not too bad gas mileage for a 5.2 liter.
Very comfortable!
Powerful!
Smooth riding!
I love this car and it's in great condition!
No rust anywhere on the whole car (AZ car).
Nice review... but how is Granny getting to the grocery store, now that you got her Dart?
Heat lines were cut by previous owner. (What does that mean.? What's a heat line?.)
Air conditioning trouble until I took it out. (Good idea, if you take it out, it can't give any trouble)
Radiator went. (Where did it go?. Have you found it yet?.)
Engine and transmission mounts went. (Where?)
Fuel pump went. (Ditto)
Alternator went. (Ditto)
Carburetor went. (Ditto)
Push-rods and rockers broke. (Really? Did they break into small pieces?)
Roof lining tore where it connects at the back window.
Ignition coil went out. (For Lunch)
General comments?
This is a great old car! (What's great about it?)
Muscle cars ended in '71 but '74 in my opinion was REALLY the last year for any power and muscle. (That's definitely just your opinion)
This is a 4 door not a muscle car, but it has been great. Sure, a lot of things have gone out, but hey it's 31 years old and has 106,000 miles (not bad at all for a '74 but still over 100,000)
(It's only a little under 3,500 miles per year)
Very comfortable! (You must be joking)
Review rating: 3/10.
Scrap it or give it back to granny.
Haha. I wrote this original review a couple years back and I just happened to run into it again! I like your reply haha. Yea the car gave me a lot of trouble, but it gave me something to do instead of getting wasted or doing drugs like so many kids did in high school. I didn't wanna buy a Camry or even a new Scion so I kept the car and it's my daily driver to this day. Now the motor has a Clevite 77 camshaft, Eddy intake and carburetor, 2.25" duals with flowmasters and a perfect tune. The A904 trans has a Hughes 2500 stall, Alto Red race clutches, koleen steels and kevlar bands, also all from Hughes. It's now got an 8.25" rear with 3.21s no posi yet. Traction bars and Monroe air shocks were added as well. I threw in (no, not literally) a pair of racing seats and a B&M race gate shifter as well as a tach. It's still a 4 dr, but I sanded down the granny blue paint and primered it so it would look less granny-like and got some inexpensive steel wheels and BFG radial t/a tires. Since I don't have slicks or a sure-grip I can't launch at the full 2500 stall speed, but lanuching easy at 1500 rpm and then full throttle after about 1 second, it has run a 14.91 and it'll do 0-60 mph in about 6.5 seconds day in and day out, even when it's 115 degrees here in AZ. That's GTS 340 territory. I'm hoping to pick up a set of 340 heads and probably flowtech headers soon. That combined with a sure-grip, even on street tires, would probably get the car down into the high 13s.
Cheers!
