1988 Dodge Daytona Base review from North America
"Fast, comfortable, reasonably reliable, what more could you ask - did I mention FAST?"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Timing belts x2 at approximately 76,000 mile intervals.
Fuel Pump failed at approximately 140,000 miles.
Clutch cable broken x2 at approximately 70,000 mile intervals.
Tach cuts out when warm.
Odometer quit at 124,391 miles.
General comments?
Almost hate to get rid of the car, but age is showing and it its finally beginning to nickle and dime me to the point that I'm ready to pass it on.
Fast for a 4-banger, but for that matter, it's fast for even a small V-8! Upgraded computer to a Mopar Performance unit, and gained 5 lbs of boost and probably 20 horsepower.
For all that speed, I've gotten 30 miles to the gallon on country back-hill roads.
Front seats are roomy and comfortable, even at 6'4", but I wouldn't put any, but the smallest passengers in the back end.
Nice and roomy hatch, holds plenty of cargo when needed, especially with the rear seats folded down.
Fun to drive and quite reliable - until around 180,000 miles or so and even then it's only needed minor repairs.
