1998 Dodge Durango SLT 5.9L from North America

Summary:

I will never drive anything other than Dodge ever again

Faults:

New engine at 124000km.

Wheel bearings 135000.

New thermostat.

Ignition coil.

ABS lights on (sensor)

Back gate rusting.

General Comments:

This truck makes me feel very safe out on the roads.

The back seats are very uncomfortable do to the angle in which they are installed.

I enjoy the 4X4 it allows me to go anywhere on the farm.

Front seats are comfortable and roomy.

1998 Dodge Durango from North America

Summary:

Piece of crap, buy a bicycle

Faults:

Save yourself the headache, this truck is a piece of crap! It would be easier to tell you what I haven't replaced! Now it is the transmission. 2800.00 job, great looking statue for the driveway now. The best thing about it is the front is roomy for tall people, but the second and third row seats are not.

General Comments:

Bad gas mileage, save lots of money for future repairs.

1998 Dodge Durango SLT 5.9 V8 from North America

Summary:

Like it was made just for ME!

Faults:

Speakers on driver and passenger front and back doors.

Wiper blades, front and back.

Fog lamp fuse went out the second time I went from high beams to low beams.

General Comments:

I bought the truck used with a 113k miles. I don't know about the previous owner's maintenance schedule since I bought it from a dealership, but they did a great job. I could not have asked for anything better designed for me (well maybe for better gas mileage, but it's a V-8, I wasn't expecting the gas mileage of an Echo!). I average 100 miles a day freeway driving and it still maintains 16-18 average MPG...

The seats are comfortable, the dash is easy on the eyes, there is plenty of space for whatever, and after replacing the 4 speakers in the doors, the Infinity sound system works awesome!

I have noticed the rust starting on the lower window seals on the back doors, and the liftgate has started a couple of rust patches on the underside of the door (not visible from the outside at all). I have read the comments on here and I'm knocking on wood, because my oil is maintaining a good level and the pressure is standing at little above 40. I will be checking the screen for sludge, replacing the water pump, and checking the tensioner to be on the safe side (thanks for the heads up Jay!).

This truck is the complete package. I can deal with the minor stuff, and it sounds like just maintenance... and when I feel like throwing a little money away, I just have to wind him out and Baby D is always ready for more. The power is incredible. 7 people (not kids, actual full size men), roof rack packed, and the trunk area filled with camping gear at 75 mph with cruise control and the A/C blowing like the arctic tundra, with still more than enough power just waiting to be used!

I plan on taking care of my truck in sickness and in health. To all you Durango lovers out there... Motor on!

1998 Dodge Durango from North America

Summary:

I can never get rid of it, its family

Faults:

Minor things, little rust. windows are the biggest downfall. Electronics were the most fowl ups. Truck engine is relentless.

General Comments:

Tough SUV. Heavy on gas, pulls heavy things with ease. Little things always went wrong. Nothing major ever went, except for belt and water pump.

1998 Dodge Durango SLT 5.2 Liter V8 from North America

Summary:

Great

Faults:

Had to replace the water pump.

Also had to rebuild the transmission and 4X4 transfer case, it cost a lot of money, but what do you expect with a older used vehicle.

General Comments:

I absolutely love this SUV, well worth the money spent. I installed a cold-air intake, flowmaster exhaust, cowl induction hood and 35 inch tires, it will go absolutely anywhere that I want it to as fast as I want it to. My girlfriend owns a white 2 wheel drive version with 15,000 more miles and it runs better than mine does.
