2004 Dodge Durango SLT review from North America

"Good truck; high on style and function"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Computer for the ignition control module failed at 22k.

Module did not recognize key and wouldn't start.

Module and towing covered under warranty. Dealership fixed problem same day truck was towed in.

I had to replace the front brake rotors at 32k and rear rotors at 47K (rotors cost $60ea)

Small plastic fuse cover broke off. Cost ($36),

and 2 small covers on side of front seats had to be replaced.

Rear bumper cracked when I backed into a snowbank at about 2mph; granted it was -3 degrees. But what good is a bumper if you can bump anything.

New bumper cover is $300 unpainted.

Other than these issues, the truck has been very reliable.

General comments?

Large SUV that drives like a large car.

I travel 225 miles to New York 5-6 times a year, and this truck is unbeatable in snow, ice or rain. Handling and braking are very predictable on bad road conditions.

The high seating position allows you see traffic far ahead, and avoid the typical panic stops in heavy traffic. It is very smooth on the highway and comfortable.

I average about 16mpg around town and 18-20mpg on highway depending on distance. I try to drive smoothly and avoid fast starts. Aggressive driving will net you 12-13mpg easy.

I would only get the Hemi motor if I was towing alot. It requires premium gas, and the gas mpg is not as good as small 4.7 V-8. I have towed small trailers and boats without any issues.

The leather seats and interior are nice. There is a lot of hard plastic, but it seems to be holding up and is easy to clean.

So far so the truck doesn't creak or groan, so I guess the build quality is pretty good.
