What things have gone wrong with the car?
Vacuum sensor for smog control at 80K miles.
General comments?
I just passed through 83K miles on my 2003 Durango 4.7L V8. Best vehicle I have ever owned.
I’ve have had to make only one repair to date, $200 for a vacuum sensor in the smog control system; no other trouble whatsoever.
Those of you complaining about fuel economy should consider adding a fuel injection performance kit (FIPK) from K&N or Airaide. It replaces the OEM air box and resonator with a big filter and a heat shield to ensure your Durango gets a nice cold (denser) airflow via a straight flow intake direct to the throttle block. Why? It increases horsepower and throttle response, so the engine works less hard for the same amount of gas. The much quicker throttle response makes the truck even more fun to drive. Best of all it is street legal in all 50 states — even approved by the Calif. Air Resources Board (CARB).
Only issue is increased engine noise under the hood during hard acceleration: good if you like a little hot rod throb, bad if you want a quiet diaper wagon. Me, I like the new engine note, gas savings and improved acceleration.
