2001 Dodge Durango SLT review from North America

"Better off with a little old Kia"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The engine light came on and it was because of leaking vacuum hose. This was at about 27,500 miles.

At 28,000 miles it has developed a loud nasty noise in the power steering and its funny it started right after I got a recall for the power steering. However when I got it back from the dealer, the noise was still alive so I took it right back and then they replaced the steering gear. It was gone after that, and at least it was under warranty because it was a recall otherwise it would cost about $1,000 to fix it.

At 30,000 The heater clogged up causing the inside with to develop a very bad smell from the vents, and not getting hot enough. This was also under warranty since Dodge already knew about this problem, so If anybody who has a 2001 Durango with this problem take it to the dealer and they will fix it for no cost.

At 36,600 miles the transmission blew and this was caused by a mount that was defective according to the mechanic, and since I was over the 36,000 miles warranty Dodge refused to take care of it. So this was $2,500 for a new transmission plus the cost of repair which came out to $3,200. They also had to put in new gaskets when the transmission got replaced.

About a year ago the drivers side window stoped working and have not yet fixed it.

I have recently been hearing grinding noises from the back wheels.

I had to replace the brakes twice and the tires once but I was expecting the brakes to last longer and I found out from others who owned this type of truck that this is common.

I never had any problems with the engine except the vacum hose but that past, but still have the same engine and never had to be replaced. However theres only 45,000 miles on it, but I change the oil every 3,000 miles. I have always done it this way. One time I had it done though by a mechanic it was leaking oil afterwards I checked it out and the drain plug and the filter was on very loose. The mechanic did not tighten anything up.

General comments?

If I did not have all these problems especially with the transmission I would buy a new dodge and even most of it was under warranty but its still unacceptable. I actually said to those people that I also have a Kia and its the first car that Kia made in 1994 from Korea. To most people this would be a throw away car, but hey I'm still driving it and never had a problem with it I also told them that this Kia is better than all their Dodges, not to mention the trucks. Then I said if I got a 2002 Kia instead of that Dodge I bought from them and say if the transmission went on that at the same mileage they would have covered it under warranty because that warranty is 10 years/100,000 miles compared to that crappy 3 year/36,000 mile one. That is because Dodge is too cheap to get a very good warranty on their vehicles despite of the big corporation that they have. But they don't care about taking much more pride in their vehicles and making customers happy, So I don't care about them. Hope the whole corporation goes rock bottom. I'm sure all of you who read this agree with me.

I really hope Dodge goes out of business because those people who took all that money home with them from their products and the repairs which is probably over $100,000,000,000 a year and then split it to all the employees, including those from the main headquarters in Detroit. Anyway those people deserve to get laid off and not being able to find new jobs and not to qualify unemployment. I also hope the big boss of Dodge suffers worse.

THE END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
