"Yesterdays technology at Tomorrows price, Today"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

At 24,060 miles the Vehicle stopped running while at normal cruse speed of 45 MPH and had to be towed to the dealer. Crank position sensor is defective.

At 30,037 miles front sway bar bushings had to be replaced to stop constant squeaking noise during normal operation.

Also at this time the door lock actuator was replaced for making loud noise when unlocking vehicle with the remote.

At 41,135 miles the door locks intermittently lock and/or unlock without any activation of the power door lock switch. This is a known problem with Dodge trucks and SUV's. Refer to TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) # 08-041-00 The repair involed installing new door/liftgate lock cylinder switches.

At 44,056 miles back to the shop for door locking and unlocking (TSB 08-041-00).

Also had to replace sway bar bushings again at this time.

At 59,285 miles installing new door/liftgate lock cylinder switches (TSB 08-041-00)

The dealer fixed the locking and unlocking, but in the process damaged something on the passenger side door and now it can only be opened from the inside.

At 65,111 miles was taken to a different dealer who said he could fix the door locking and unlocking problem. No work was done because warranty is out.

At 72,140 miles doors still locking and unlocking with added loud honking/buzzer type noise. I have given up on Daimler-Chrysler fixing this or even having the knowledge of how to fix this.

The final straw is the power steering pump is broken and blowing fluid all over the engine.

General comments?

The vehicle is one of the best looking SUV's on the road or in the shop.

The Durango is one of the most powerful SUV of it's type.

I feel that Dodge should put more engineering effort in producing a more dependable product.

XLT?

We've had very similar experiences and then some. Our vehicle is only at 36,000 miles.

Locking/unlocking: Within 3 months of buying a brand new R/T, doors started locking/unlocking on their own (at only 5,000 miles) and now it's doing it again at 36,000 miles.

Stalling: At 21,000 miles, car stalls (on highway) - some coil wire burnt through.

Sway Bar Bushings and Differentials: At 30,000 strange noises, had the sway bar bushings replaced. Still strange noises, now more like crunching noises when turn the wheel - twice brought to dealer, they can't figure it out. Move to new city, new dealer services front and rear differentials (seems OK now)

Surging: To dealer a few times. They can't duplicate as it only happens when Durango's been running a while. Finally dealer takes it on long ride home and it surges. They replace throttle position sensor (doesn't seem as bad, but still runs a little rough). Our friends have had the surging occur on their Durango SLT and they brought it to the SAME dealer less than a month later and dealer told them they didn't know what it was (The dealer had JUST fixed this on ours!!) -

Back to the shop for the locking/unlocking now - seems this will be a never ending problem!
