The ring and pinion gear had to be replaced at 41,000 miles. One of the rear passenger windows has been repaired four times; twice the governor was replaced. The window is still not working properly. The window is having more difficulty in rolling up/closing than ever before. At 25k miles the truck had to be towed because the Air Bag light came on a day after I starting hearing a sound from within the steering wheel/column (sounded like sand in a bean bag.)
Several mechanics I spoke with before having the ring and pinion gear replaced said that the gear typically does not need replacing before reaching the 100k mile mark. They also were surprised to find that this truck has never been used to pull anything.
Hi, I have a 2000 Durango and I LOVE IT. I just heard about the recall for the bearings in the wheel. I was looking for more info when I can across this site. Your airbag problem had a recall on 4/30/01. Check it out. I found recall on all my vehicles at www.nhtsa.dot.gov
