Everything was great on the new Durango for the first 500 miles and then it just became a huge regret. I went out into the garage to take off for a camping trip and the truck would not so much as even turn over. All you could hear is the fuse box and electrical system shaking and making horrible noises. It wouldn't even jump.
From all the hype over these new durango's one would sure think that they would have all of these petty problems worked out. I does go to show that these manufacturers go to very little lengths to provide a quality product when launching a new style and model of a vehicle that in the past hasn't had these kind of issues as much.
So, what happened? You mention a problem, and don't tell what caused it, or how you got it fixed. My guess, you left a light on.
Well, your experience with the Durango seems to have hit a bump. It's not impossible to have problems with the particular vehicle that was built for you. What we would like to hear is what happened next. A good part of ownership experience is how did your dealer, or beyond that the car company remedy this problem. You are under every warranty, so unless something else is happening here like an aftermarket alteration conflicting with the existing electrical system. What happened next? And how about a review of the whole vehicle not just the problem. The more full your description the more useful it would be to characterize the 2004 Durango line.
Interesting... I'm a new owner to a 04 Durango and I had the same thing happen to me. About 2 weeks ago, I dropped off my 3 yr old at daycare. Not 10 minutes later, the truck wouldn't start. It took about 4 times, then all was well. Today, I go out to my heated garage (Canadian chill) and attempt to start the truck. 5 times it started, then quickly died. On the 6th, I kept my foot on the gas for a few, then all was well. I'm bringing it in to the dealership tomorrow.
We purchased a 2004 Durango with a Hemi and I have had a problem with it not starting also, but it will jump. It has been very inconsistent and is at the dealer for the problem as we speak for the 4th time. I have sent notice to Daimler Chrysler and will be waiting for their response. My problem sounds a little different then the others posted. Can't think of much worse than having a brand new car sitting in the garage and being worried that it won't start each morning when I am getting ready for work. The dealer says they can't find anything. Anyone else had this problem???
1. Remove the spare tire (Get road side assistance and Fix-A-Flat from Wal-Mart), change the spark plugs, and clean your battery connection. You will improve this vehicles acceleration, torque, brake life, curb handling, and gas mileage “dramatically”.
2. Water intrusion was the cause my electrical problems. This is what you do. Pour lots of water on top of your Durango at a Car Wash. Pop the hood to see if water leaks in you engine from the windshield. Open all the doors and look for water intrusion that could reach the fuse box and radio wires. You can tape or seal the location of the leaks and park under shed in heavy rain conditions.
After I got rid of the extra weight, got a tune up, put acetone in my tank, sealed my water leaks, and put wider D's on my tires... My Durango drives like a whole new animal and I love it!
2004 Durango leaks into the fuse box. I cannot find where it comes from, nor can my mechanic or the dealer or our body shop, yet it makes it's way in and every thing goes hay wire. Lights, air, and dash lights will all come on during the night with no one or no keys in it. If I happen to be driving, the dash lights come on, radio goes off, air quits then car stops, but I can blow all the water out of the fuse box (a looooottttt of water) and we are off again. Any one found the answer yet?
Water is entering the fuse box because one of the plastic fuse lids is missing a rubber gasket, they didn't put one on the one box. Just seal it with rubber stripping or put a little silicone caulking on the lid, let it dry and then put it back together. It will work - I have done it.
Took my 2004 Dodge Durango that I've only had for a couple week through the car wash and everything went haywire. The car stalled and wouldn't start back up for about 3 or 4 minutes. Then when it finally did start back up it acted like it wanted to choke. The stereo had lots of static so I turned it to the CD player it too had static and that's when I new something was very wrong. Not too longer after that the sound went out completely. Uh-oh... what should I do besides never go through another car wash? Please help...
