2003 Dodge Durango Sport from North America - Comments

"Well Built All-American SUV with plenty of power!!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing, although I do plan on taking it in for the ball joint recall!!

General comments?

I just purchased this vehicle a couple of weeks ago, so far so good!!!

It has great power, drives and handles great. I'm kind of disappointed in all of the bad reviews I keep reading about the Durangos. I'm starting to think that maybe these are not all valid complaints.

The one thing I've noticed is there doesn't seem to be, but a handful of complaints about the "SLUDGE" problem on the full-size trucks, that also come available with the 5.2L and 5.9L engines, but yet all of the Durangos seem to have this problem!!!

Sounds kind of fishy to me!!!

I think that representatives and/or executives of the other guys (competitors of Dodge) could very easily go on to any of these websites like this one and make these claims about the Durangos just the same as I am doing right at this moment!!!

So needless to say, I'm not entirely convinced that this is as big of a problem as is being claimed!!!

I've been in the automotive parts and repair business for the past ten years, and up until today was the first I have heard of this "SLUDGE" problem on the Durangos!!!

And go figure the guy who told me this just happened to find this information on the Internet!!!

But he hasn't had the problem as of yet on his 2000 Durango 5.9L with 35,000 miles on it!!!

But he came into my store today to purchase some engine flush and synthetic oil to get a jump on this "potential problem"!!!

Hmmmm maybe it could be a marketing plan for engine flushes or synthetic oils too???

Considering the Dodge Durango is the best selling SUV that Daimler-Chrysler produces, and they are selling the heck out of them, one would think that the competition might be desperate to slow the sales of this automobile in any possible way they could!!!

Kind of makes one think!!!

And I'm curious how would the operator of this website be able to "police" the possibility of the competitors coming on to this website and making accusations about the Dodges???

First of all I'm not the administrator of this site.

Nobody can "police" anyone or anything on this or other site. What you read here (and in the majority of websites, anyway) is to be PROCESSED: Use your brain and decide if the info is reasonable (which is fine) or not (which is also fine). Just do not expect that somebody will judge for you- you have to think if what you read is valid.

And while I'm at it: Come on people - the universe is NOT setting up a conspiracy against american cars (or german or japanese). If everywhere in the web people keep complaining about Chrysler transmissions, sludge in Camrys, broken coils in VWs and so on,... well just ask yourself if it's all a giant conspiracy or it's the fact simply some makes do produce lemons from time to time...

Personally, I live in southern europe and I've been browsing this site for some years now: What I've read thus far corresponds to what I see in the street (and in the garages).

The sludge "problem" hasn't appeared in my son's 4.7L V-8 - it runs and sounds as new. He does do a lot of highway driving, though, so the truck gets throroughly warmed up.

When I saw the high rating, I just had to read the review. I saw in the first few lines why the driver loves the car. He's only owned it two weeks!

I have had mine for 14 months, and have experienced nothing, but grief.

I have never owned any vehicle that had such a weak system for securing the driver seat to the floor. Two out of our four Durangos had the drivers seat break loose.

The writer is worried about the competition writing bad reviews. Well I don't have an axe to grind. I didn't even pay for my Durango since it was issued to me by my employer.

I do compare it's performance with my personal vehicles (two Toyotas and a Subaru). The Durango gets points for styling, and that's about it.

LOL this guy's funny.

You own the thing for 2 weeks

Drive it for 500miles.

But everyone who had problems with the car has is working for dodge competition...

LOL...

I don't own one, I just read all of the 1998 reviews and they are almost ALL BAD.
