Just bought my 2001 RT durango... I hope I have good luck too... I don't want her to give me any problems... you are scaring me guys!
Bought my 2001 Durango 5.9 V8 Magnum in Oct 2001 - a previous rental company car - with 22,000. It now has 180,000.
I have replaced the water pump, numerous serpentine belts, air conditioning. Had tranny issues in 2002, 2003 and 2004 almost 1 yr to the date, it was rebuilt in 2004 by the dealer. ($2600), have had all recall work completed.
Blower blows both hot and cold, but it's either high on none.
Both passenger side windows are taped shut as the switch won't work to bring them up if lowered.
Oh, and occasionally when I move the key, it shorts out the dash panel, turning off everything - solution is either turn the car off and back on, or lift the tilt steering wheel a notch (I am serious!).
I love the get up and go, family laughs as I kiss the dash regularly, I love my baby!
BUT!!! Enough is enough. today it went to the shop again as it would not move as I accelerated. Shop said it needs a $4000 new transmission.
Dodge recalls the little crap, what of the blower? What of the obvious piece of junk tranny they put in?
Thanks for the vent!
My 2000 Durango won't shift into high gear...
When I get to about 3000rpm, it won't shift into drive and I can't go on the freeway... I took it to the local autocare center and they said that they used "penzoil multi vehicle"... is it supposed to be atf+4??? I've only got payments until August... Please give me some feedback... Thanks :)
I had my 98 Durango tranny replaced 6 months ago.
Started having some shift problems again, but it turned out to be a bad Throttle Position Sensor.
Check it out... $60 part at the most and plugs right in to the throttle body.
5 minutes to replace and instantly solved shifting problems.
99 Durango delay wiper system is running strange. Ex: turn it on the slowest setting and it will wipe two or three times in a row, then waits 15 seconds or so, wipes once or twice, then maybe 5 seconds. Later wipes 4 or 5 times in a row. It has also blown a fuse once.
I own a 2001 Durango SLT 4X4 with the 4.7, which just turned 127,000 miles. All in all it has not been a bad vehicle, we have gone through Ball Joints both upper, and lower, inner tie-rod on the drivers side, drivers side wheel bearing, AC had a freon leak, right side rear window switch, blower motor relay which for anyone with the problem of the AC, or heat only working on high this is the fix, the part runs 18.00 for the relay which takes about 20 min to change. This seems like a lot however if you are handy all the above can be fixed with minimum cost. now all that being said, the transmission just started down shifting hard which caused the engine light to come on needless to say its on my to-do list for tomorrow.
2001 Dodge Durango R/T 5.9.
My AC isn't working unless I'm driving (it blows, but not cold air unless driving). The front blower thingy was replaced a few years back (like 10 bucks or so), but it's starting to act up again. It's no big deal to put in another front blower thingy, BUT even if I do, the AC still only blows cold air if I'm driving... anyone know how I can fix that? It's too darn hot to not have AC... PLEASE HELP - I'm pregnant and will have to drive the kids to school soon!!!

By driving, do you mean literally driving down the road, or do you mean it only works when you have your car running? Cause if you mean your A/C only works with the engine running, then there's nothing to fix here. The A/C compressor runs on engine power so if the engine isn't running, you're not going to have cold air.
Sounds like you ac has run out of gas, simply get the system re gassed (have a look around for a quote as well vary a lot)
As long as there are no leaks anywhere, all should be well and 20 minutes later, you will have ice cold air con once more :).

My A/C does the same thing. As long as it is moving, the things blows really cold air. When I come to a stop light it blows warm air. The only fix I have for mine is I have rear air. If I leave them both on, I don't have that problem when I stop.
