2001 Dodge Durango SLT review from North America
"Worth the money"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Minor complaints that I don't really care about are: cruise control just stopped working and the ac quit and the rpm fluctuates when stopped and the heater fan has 2 speeds (off or high) and loose coolant from idk where.
MAJOR COMPLAINT!!! BOTH REAR LEAF SPRINGS BBBBRRRROOOKKKKEEENNNN AT THE SHACKLES.
General comments?
Cruise control: it works sometimes
ac: stopped getting cold then started to smell like burning brakes (replaced valve, compressor, clutch)
rpm: when I'm in park it fluctuates from 500 to 2000, if I put it in gear it evens out for a while then fluctuates more
fan: it has the multiple control speed, but the only one that works is the very highest
coolant: usually the truck sits like "in the middle" for temperature and once every 2 weeks or so I notice it starts raising to nearly 3/4, not quite overheating, but hotter than usual, when I get where I'm going and check the coolant I'm down by at least a gallon or more, I don't see any leaks anyplace or smell it, but its gone
leaf springs: well they both broke last week. I don't offroad or abuse my vehicle... driver side broke at the rear knuckle and passenger side broke at the front knuckle. warranty place is jerking me around telling me that a 1" piece of solid steel broke cuz it had surface rust... but I'm fighting them they will not win... did some research on a few different sites and found that vins: 1b4hs28n...it's a common problem... will be tryin to contact dodge first thing in the morning to see if they will do anything to help.
But all in all I absolutely love my durango more than I have any other vehicle. it is the perfect size for a family with 2 children, handles superb in the snow, holds the road great, real nice turning radius (had a 2001 suburban before this and couldnt ever park the thing), leather seats are very comfortable even the 3rd row.
