1994 Dodge Grand Caravan SE review from North America

"Worry-free, cost-effective, Detroit-engineered fury and mayhem!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Since I've inherited the van from my parents it's ran very well.

The factory tape deck/radio died last year.

Last summer the air conditioning needed to be recharged.

The motor for the rear windshield wiper no longer works.

None of these problems were/are serious, though.

Prior to this van coming under my command there *were* a few problems that bear mentioning.

The transmission went out at 72,000 miles.

At about 55,000 miles there was a problem with the switch that activated the interior dome light switch-- the light would flicker on and off and the "door ajar" bell would ding, even when the car was moving and all doors were closed.

General comments?

This van is the most comfortable vehicle I've owned-- during highway driving the controls and armrests are all located in just the right places at the right times.

Handling is a little lightly sprung-- you can't take corners too fast or it feels like you'll tip over-- it won't, but it feels like you might.

Gas mileage averages out to about 20 miles per gallon, which is pretty good for a vehicle of it's size and seating capacity.

With the seats out, I've moved to and from college with amazing ease-- and there's room to sleep back there as well.

On the whole, this van is a reasonably practical, economical, non-pretentious ride, with plenty of room for all my friends and their cargo, and is inexpensive to own and maintain.
