1991 Dodge Grand Caravan SE review from North America
"Crap!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Warning,
Don't buy any Grand Caravan or Caravans'. Transmissions are not been improved as of 2004. On my third transmission. I have friend that has a 1998 and just fixed his. He didn't go to the dealer. To avoid a transmission repair, have the transmission "Flushed out", not changed.
Two oil pans one changed under warranty. Front rotors replaced under warranty do to low grade steel that rusted right through do to honey comb steel. Rear lift rusted in spots between the rear window seal and the body panel. This was an extended warranty that Dodge made. It has to be done again.
Inside plastic interior panels, break very easily if a need arises to remove. The interior is very low grade and not acceptable with the cost of buying it new.
If the color is white, the paint will peel off on various body exterior panels on vehicle.
Fan belt tensioner doesn't last more than two years using after market parts or not.
To remove the rear seats, too heavy and is a big burden if an older person has to do so.
Replaced an oil seal behind the crank shaft pulley because it was making a big mess on the drive way. Resale value if sold, wouldn't get as much as Honda or Toyota. I would buy north American if they made vehicles that have quality and not fancy looking.
General comments?
The engine is the best part of the
van. Also rust doesn't be much of a problem.
Its great to move old dry wall, junk and old lumber to the dump. Thats the only use I can recommend.
